Cicinho and Van Nistelrooy, happy with winning three points against Real Sociedad

Ruud Van Nistelrooy had two goal scoring chances in the first half and one in the last 45 minutes. Despite not scoring, the most important thing for the Dutch striker was winning the match and gaining the three points that place Real Madrid fourth in the League table. Cicinho thinks the key to winning the game was the ball movement during the second half.

Fabio Capello was happy with his team's performance and with the final score obtained against Real Sociedad

Real Madrid's highly anticipated first season victory in the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium came during the second half of yesterday's match against Real Sociedad. Fabio Capello said the final result showed that Real Madrid played better during the last 45 minutes. They performed better, but according to the Italian coach, they "still have to work hard."





"We've seen two very different Real Madrids tonight. At first, we were timid, hardly moved the ball around and were very still. During the second half we losened up and played much better. Real Sociedad pressured more during the first half, but found it difficult to do so during the last 45 minutes because we had more control of the ball, changed pace frequently and were able to get the ball forward."

The world's best left back reaches an impressive milestone

Roberto Carlos has defended the Real Madrid shirt for eleven years. For over a decade, the Brazilian, who has been an unquestionable starter for the all the managers who have coached the team, has broken records and achieved some important milestones. The last was reached last night against Real Sociedad, as Roberto Carlos played his 350 League match in White. Congratulations Roberto.





When Fabio Capello began his first stint as the coach of Real Madrid in 1996, he asked to sign who he considered to be one of the best left backs in the world. With the passing of time, and especially matches and triumphs, Roberto Carlos was dubbed the King of the left wing, while the football world yielded to his unstoppable fee kicks and his innate power.
He became an unquestionable fixture during the very first match of the League that Real Madrid would go on to win. On 31 August 1996, the Whites faced Deportivo Coruña at the Riazor Stadium. The match ended 1-1, and guess who scored the Madridista's goal to draw the game? Well, it was Roberto Carlos. The Brazilian could not have imagined a better La Liga debut. He played in 37 games and scored five times that season. Thus, the unstoppable career in Spain of who is today considered one of the world's best left backs in the world was underway.



Ten years later, the same figures are again under the same roof. Fabio Capello, who returned to the Madridista bench this year, witnessed the fast 33 year old footballer play his 350 League match against Real Sociedad.

Roberto Carlos has been donning the White shirt for 11 seasons, including this one. In over a decade, the Brazilian has tallied 350 matches, 30,821 minutes, and 43 goals in the First Division. His goal total, the majority of which is due to his famous free kicks that so often scare the rival defence and goalkeeper, is more than outstanding for a defender.

Roberto Carlos has played against all the teams that have played in the First Division over the last ten years. Deportivo Coruña, who he made his Spanish League debut against, have faced Roberto's wrath 20 times, more than any other side. The next rival on the list is Real Sociedad, who he has come across 19 times. The Brazilian defender has played against Athletic Bilbao, Mallorca, Betis, and Valencia on 18 occasions each. In terms of goals, Roberto Carlos seems to have found his goal-scoring touch against Zaragoza, Celta, Mallorca, and Betis. He has scored four goals against each of these teams.

The Brazilian forward celebrates his 30th birthday

Ronaldo Luiz Nazario de Lima turns 30 years old today, 22 September. Over the last thirty years, the "baller" has made quite a name for himself in the football world. The Brazilian attacker has won all sorts of trophies and awards throughout his career, but he is still on the hunt to lengthen his list of honours, as well as Real Madrid's.





Thirty years ago today, Ronaldo Luiz Nazario de Lima was born in one of the poorest neighbourhoods of Rio de Janeiro. With a childhood marred by poverty so rampant in Brazil, the child chose football as an escape. And boy did he escape.
Ronaldo began showing signs of his tremendous talent when he started playing futsal, which helped him reach the lower ranks of Brazil's Cruzeiro. The player continued his fast ascent within the Carioca side, and in 1993, at the age of 16, he made his debut in the Brazilian First Division. One year later, Ronaldo was called up by the Brazilian national team to participate in the 1994 United States World Cup. Brazil went on to win the trophy, but Ronaldo, the youngest player in the competition, didn't get one minute of playing time.

Move to Europe
Following the World Cup, Ronaldo signed with Holland's PSV Eindhoven, where he became one of the most sought after men in European football during his two years there. His sweet Dutch experience resulted in a staggering figure: 42 goals in 46 matches played.

The Brazilian then signed with Bobby Robson's Barcelona for the 1996/97 season. His legend continued to grow as he scored 34 times in 37 matches. But his bad relationship with then Barça President, José Luis Núñez provoked "The Phenomenon's" departure to Inter Milan in Italy. Ronaldo continued his spectacular rhythm with the Milanese side and won numerous accolades, but a serious knee injury kept him off the pitch for nearly two whole seasons.



Glorious return
The return of great Ronaldo took place at the 2002 Japan & Korea World Cup, where he won the Golden Boot for scoring eight goals and became a two-time World Champion. Following the World Cup, the player returned to Spain to sign with Real Madrid, where he has spent the last five years delighting the fans with his goals.

The forward, currently recovering from injury, is more excited than ever thanks to the Club's new project, and he hopes to score as many goals as possible to lead Madrid to every title in play this season: the League, the Champions League, and the King's Cup. The "killer" is "obsessed" with winning the European Cup, being that it is the only title he has yet to win.

Ronaldo has become one of the best forwards in football history, and he is sure to bring a lot of joy and happiness to Madridistas around the world. Thirty years of goals…and countless more.

Fabio Capello didn't say who will start against Betis, but he did confirm more rotations

Real Madrid coach Fabio Capello gave a press conference hours before departing to Sevilla, where his team will play Betis in Matchday 4 of La Liga. The Italian boss praised Ronaldo's hard work and recovery efforts, and he spoke about possible lineup options without meaning to do so. He also announced there would be player rotations and he is counting on a victory to continue the team's good patch of results.





What are your thoughts on Quique Sánchez Flores' statements about Madrid not having a clear-cut leader?
I never interfere with other teams. I only want to talk about technique. Nothing more. I don't want to talk about this gentleman who apparently knows more than I do from the outside looking in. It is not an issue.
When will Ronaldo return?
I said three weeks and only one has gone by. Ronaldo improves on a daily basis. He is working well and we are very happy with his progress. His knee isn't giving him any problems, but he has to lose a little more weight.

You kept a close eye on Ronaldo this week.
I spoke to him as much as I did with the others. My philosophy has always been to maintain constant contact with a player who is recovering from injury. He knows whether or not his knee hurts, so that's why we speak.

How are the other injured players doing?
Roberto Carlos has recovered. Salgado hasn't. And Raúl, well...



Will you be rotating players?
Yes, I will.

The Betis match could help confirm the team's progress.
The team improves daily. We are up against a well-coached team. The coach is very knowledgeable and he has good, fast players. We have to continue improving with each game we play.

Will Beckham be benched again?
I haven't decided yet, but 12 men cannot play. I rotate my players, so some have to be left out every match. He's a member of the squad, just like the rest.

Are you worried about the absentee vote issue?
I'm not worried and it's not my problem. I'm here to coach. My problem is whether the team wins or loses. It's an issue for the President and Board to deal with. My job is the sporting section.

Is Reyes especially motivated for this match?
It's never easy to return home. Something always happens, so we shall see. Both he and Sergio have something going on in their minds.



Do you still stand by your idea of keeping the ball in play when there is a rival player injured on the turf?
It never happens here, but it Italy it did. I have the same ideas here that I did there. I always think players throw themselves to the turf when they see their rival has a chance to escape. If someone is down, he should be dizzy or knocked out. These are strong men and they take hard blows, and then they fall when they lose the ball. I've been told I don't know what Fair Play is, but that's not true. I don't like liars. People whistle when someone is injured and falls to the ground. We have to make important decisions, like kicking the ball out of play when the referee blows his whistle. That's what he is there for. He should decide.

Do you think the FA should interfere?
Some Italian journalist really slammed me for this. I guess it depends on each individuals sportsmanship. Every player knows when he is hurt, and when a guy falls during a corner kick, it's because he's worried about the counterattack. It's a very serious problem that needs to be fixed.
