Real Madrid striker Javier Saviola does not bear a grudge against former team Barcelona despite a bitter send-off by club president Joan Laporta.

"I'm grateful to Barcelona, to my team mates and coaches there," the Argentine forward told sports daily Marca on Wednesday.

"I was there for six years and left on good terms with everyone, that's why I was so surprised by what the president said."


Laporta was upset by Saviola's decision to join Barca's arch-rivals on a free transfer earlier this month after spending most of his final season at the Nou Camp on the sidelines.

"As a professional you can't criticise him, but his contribution in terms of trophies was zero," said Laporta.

"I hope he has the same success as he had at Barcelona."

But Saviola said Laporta's comments had not soured his view of his former team.

"He (Laporta) has got his business over there in Barcelona and I'm now in a different team. I don't hold any grudges.... I will be happy to score against Barca but I will always respect them."

Real Madrid got their title defence off to a winning start when a deflected shot by new signing Wesley Sneijder earned a 2-1 comeback victory over city rivals Atletico at the Bernabeu on Saturday.

The Dutchman's miscued shot spun off a defender and ended up in the back of the net after Guti had rolled a free kick into his path 10 minutes from time.

The game between the Primera Liga's two biggest spenders was played at a frenetic pace with the sides playing open, attacking football. But Bernd Schuster's Real looked more dangerous in front of goal and deserved the win.

"We made a huge effort for this first game and it was an exciting match which the fans clearly enjoyed," said coach Schuster.

"We got the win tonight but Atletico are a very dangerous side and I think they will be battling away with the top teams this season."

Sevilla, who beat Real 5-3 in the Super Cup last week, continued their sparkling start to the season with a 4-1 comeback win over Getafe thanks to second-half goals from Jesus Navas, Luis Fabiano, Frederic Kanoute and Alexander Kerzhakov.

Michael Laudrup's Getafe went in front after two minutes but the visitors fell apart after having Francisco Sousa and David Cortes sent off in the first half.

Real Murcia notched a 2-1 triumph over Real Zaragoza on their return to the top flight, new signing Fernando Baiano grabbing the winner for the hosts.

FLYING START

Atletico made a flying start at the Bernabeu, Argentine youngster Sergio Aguero putting the visitors ahead inside a minute when he stole in at the far post to nod in a Mariano Pernia corner.

Real responded well and Robinho was denied in the 14th minute when Atletico keeper Leo Franco saved his fierce shot.

A minute later Raul equalised when he steered a neat header past Franco after Sergio Ramos had floated in a cross from the right.

There was no let-up in the pace in a breathless opening half hour, Robinho going close for Real after a lightning break and Maxi Rodriguez clipping the ball wide after a well-worked Atletico attack.

But it was Real who carried more threat up front, Ramos heading against the post on the half hour and Sneijder firing wide from long range.

Real midfielder Mahamadou Diarra missed the best chance of the first half when he sliced wide with the goal at his mercy.

Atletico made a bright start to the second period but faded as Real grew in confidence, Guti firing a free kick against the bar and Ruud van Nistelrooy having a close-range shot blocked by Franco.

Sevilla's Spanish international Antonio Puerta was in stable condition in hospital after collapsing and appearing to lose consciousness momentarily during his side's league match against Getafe on Saturday.

"He is in stable condition, is conscious and has regained his pulse," Sevilla director general Jose Maria Cruz told reporters.

The 22-year-old wing back fell to the ground as he jogged back towards his own goal 35 minutes into the game at the Sanchez Pizjuan.

Team mates and medical staff rushed to his side to prevent him from swallowing his tongue and he was able to walk from the pitch.

However, Spanish media reported that he collapsed again in the changing rooms and was then taken to hospital.

Real Madrid sent a warning to the rest of the Primera Liga by thrashing Villarreal, 5-0, at El Madrigal on Sunday night.

The defending champions were at their fluent best with new signing Wesley Sneijder particularly prominent. The Holland winger, signed from Ajax in the close season, netted twice to add to efforts from Raul, Ruud van Nistelrooy and Guti.

The win sees Bernd Schuster's men go to the top of the table having also won their opener, against city rivals Atletico last weekend.

Ronaldinho shrugged off the speculation surrounding his Barcelona future by scoring twice as the Catalan giants eased past Athletic Bilbao, 3-1.

The Brazil playmaker was linked with a move to Chelsea before Friday's transfer deadline but showed his commitment to the Barca cause with a virtuoso display which proved too good for Athletic.

Ronaldinho's double - the second coming from the penalty spot - gave the hosts a commanding half-time lead and although Markel Susaeta pulled one back, Yaya Toure's first goal for Frank Rijkaard's side settled the contest.

Both sides finished with 10 men with Barca's Rafael Marquez and Athletic's Lertxundi Koikili seeing red.

Valencia bounced back from their humbling by Villarreal last weekend with a 2-1 win at newly-promoted Almeria.

Fernando Morientes put Los Che ahead but Alvaro Negredo levelled after 65 minutes. Full-back Emiliano Moretti struck the winner nine minutes from full-time.

Atletico Madrid are still searching for their first win of the season after coming from behind to earn a 1-1 draw with Real Mallorca.

Despite dominating for large periods it was left to Atletico's Mariano Pernia to cancel out Daniel Guiza's opener.

Deportivo La Coruna had to come from behind twice to avoid a second consecutive reverse at the hands of promoted opponents, this time against Real Valladolid. Having lost to Almeria last weekend, they fared better this time around.

Jose Antonio Garcia Calvo and Sisi Gonzalez were the scorers for the home side only for first Sebastian Taborda and Ivan Riki to equalize for Depor.

Manu del Moral came off the bench to grab a 90th-minute equalizer for 10-man Getafe in a 1-1 draw with Recreativo Huelva.

After Mario Cotelo was sent off, Recre striker Florent Sinama Pongolle made it two goals in two games when he fired home what looked to be the winner in the 85th minute, but deep into stoppage time Manu brought the scores level with the last kick of the game.

Espanyol remain without a Primera Liga win after letting slip a two-goal advantage in the last seven minutes against Real Betis.

Luis Garcia's first-half double looked to have set the Barcelona-based side on the way to their first three-point haul of the campaign following last weekend's disappointing 1-0 defeat at the hands of Valladolid.

But the hosts had other ideas, and late goals from Rafael Sobis and substitute Fernando salvaged a draw for Hector Cuper's team.

On Saturday, Real Murcia gained a creditable goalless draw away to Levante.

Real Zaragoza and Racing Santander shared a 1-1 draw. Oscar Serrano opened the scoring for Racing but then Ricardo Oliveira equalized for Zaragoza who have had a poor start to the season.

Barcelona lost more ground in the title race on Sunday with a 0-0 draw at Osasuna while Sevilla showed they are the Primera Liga's form team with a 4-1 stroll past regional rivals Recreativo Huelva.

Shorn of regular strikers Samuel Eto'o and Lionel Messi, Barcelona lacked penetration and now languish four points behind leaders and arch rivals Real Madrid who have nine.

"Again we lacked freshness," said coach Frank Rijkaard.

Osasuna's Javier Portillo wasted several chances including a 30-metre piledriver that Victor Valdes just managed to tip over the bar shortly after halftime.

Thierry Henry had the best opportunity for Barcelona but his bullet header was cleared off the line.

A subdued Ronaldinho was substituted midway through the second half and while Mexican prodigy Giovani dos Santos and Spain's under-17 international Bojan Krkic, on his league debut, were lively they did not come close to breaking the deadlock.

SEVILLA STROLL

Sevilla had no such worries as Frederic Kanoute and Alexander Kerzhakov each scored twice to crush Recreativo and moved them within three points of Real with a game in hand.

The match was emotional because it was the first home game since midfielder Antonio Puerta collapsed at the club's Sanchez Pizjuan stadium and died three days later.

Sevilla, who lost just twice at home last season, never looked in danger and Russian Kerzhakov pounced on a parried shot to make it 1-0 after just 12 minutes.

Kanoute strolled through Recreativo's defence and rounded the keeper to score his second in the 34th. The Mali international broke clear again before the break to tuck away a looping through ball for his third goal in two games.

A minute later striker Aitor punished a napping Sevilla with a fierce strike and Recre briefly threatened their bigger rivals as Javier Guerrero hit the angle of bar and post.

The visitors then had a let off when Kerzhakov scooped a 68th minute penalty over the bar but he made amends seven minutes later by rifling home from the corner of the area.

Kanoute was replaced by Arouna Kone, the 12 million euros ($16.66 million) Ivory Coast striker, who came on to make his debut midway through the second half.

Recreativo's Edu Moya also left the pitch early when he was sent off five minutes from time.

Big spenders Atletico Madrid are still looking for a first win after a 1-1 draw at promoted Real Murcia left them with just two points.

Argentine striker Sergio Aguero gave Atletico an early lead but Francisco Gallardo struck a late equaliser when he wrong-footed Costinha and fired into the far corner.

Their UEFA Cup rivals Villarreal snatched a 1-0 win at Real Mallorca thanks to Nihat Kahveci's long range free kick but were fortunate when a late Mallorca effort was ruled offside.

Espanyol beat visitors Getafe 1-0 and Deportivo Coruna won by the same scoreline at home to a disappointing Real Betis. Pedro Munitis gave Racing Santander a 1-0 victory over Levante.

Barcelona stumbled to their second goal-less draw of the season on Sunday after drawing a blank at Osasuna.

The Catalan giants' prodigiously talented forward line failed to sparkle once more as Frank Rijkaard's men lost further ground on leaders, defending champions and arch-rivals Real Madrid, who have perfect record after three games.

Sevilla, who have played just two games, also have an unblemished record after thrashing Recreativo Huelva 4-1.

Alexander Kerzhakov and Fredi Kanoute each scored twice as Juande Ramos' side triumphed in an emotional Andalusian derby.

The fixture was the UEFA Cup champions' first match at the Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan since the death of Antonio Puerta.

The 22-year-old Spain wing-back collapsed during the first half of his side's season-opening home match against Getafe and died three days later in hospital. Tornavaca Aitor scored for Recre, who finished with 10 men following the late dismissal of Castillo Edu Moya after he picked up two yellow cards.

Villarreal bounced back from their 5-0 humiliation at the hands of Real Madrid last time out with a hard-fought 1-0 victory at Real Mallorca.

Nihat Kahveci scored the only goal of the game just eight minutes from time as Mallorca slipped to a rare home defeat at the Ono Estadi.

Villarreal are now up to fourth.

Atletico Madrid's disappointing start to the Primera Liga season continued after they conceded a late equaliser at newly-promoted Real Murcia.

Big-spending Atletico, who had taken just one point from their opening two games, looked on course for their first three-point haul of the campaign after taking an early lead through Sergio Aguero.

But Murcia fought back in the second half and secured a deserved point through substitute Francisco Gallardo's goal 10 minutes before the end.

Pedro Munitis` first-half strike earned Racing Santander a 1-0 win against a Levante side still looking for their first win while a single goal from Andres Guardado was enough to give Deportivo La Coruna a 1-0 victory against Real Betis.

A late Jonathan Soriano goal gave Espanyol their first Primera Liga success of the season after Getafe had gone down to 10 men for the third consecutive match.

The game had been an even affair up until Esteban Granero's dismissal on the hour mark and Espanyol took full advantage with Soriano's goal three minutes from the end. On Saturday, Real Madrid made it three wins out of three after seeing off 10-man Almeria 3-1.

Wesley Sneijder was again on target with his fourth goal of the campaign while Argentinian duo Javier Saviola and Gonzalo Higuain netted Real's other goals.

It was not totally straightforward for the champions, though, and they looked on the ropes for a while in the second half when newly-promoted Almeria, despite losing Albert Crusat to a 62nd-minute red card, got the score back to 2-1 through Kalu Uche. Valencia came from behind to beat an unlucky Real Valladolid side 2-1.

The visitors dominated much of the game but went home empty-handed after David Silva's deflected effort sealed a dramatic late win for Valencia.

Daniel Kome had given Valladolid a shock lead early on but saw his strike cancelled out by a Fernando Morientes effort halfway through the first half.

Athletic Bilbao drew 1-1 with Real Zaragoza. Markel Susaeta opened the scoring for Athletic only for Diego Milito to reply.

Espanyol edged an entertaining game in Barcelona thanks to a goal by Jonathan Soriano and also had a penalty appeal turned down when Raul Tamudo was bundled over in the 12th minute.

Getafe substitute Esteban Granero was sent off after six minutes on the pitch midway through the second half. The 10 men fought valiantly but Soriano ended the resistance by stretching to poke home Albert Riera's cross two minutes from time.

Without injured strikers Samuel Eto'o and Lionel Messi, Barcelona showed little spark in Pamplona and are now four points behind leaders Real Madrid after three games.

Osasuna's Javier Portillo wasted several chances, while a bullet header from Barca's close-season signing Thierry Henry was cleared off the line after 53 minutes.

Racing's Pedro Munitis ran on to a sharp interception to sidefoot home after 28 minutes to give the north coast team their first win of the season.

Nihat Kahveci sank Mallorca with a long-range free kick seven minutes from time in a scrappy game that takes Villarreal within three points of leaders Real Madrid.

Jonas Gutierrez, Victor and Daniel Guiza went close for Mallorca in the first half and they were unlucky not to take a point after a last-gasp header from Guiza was harshly ruled out for offside.

Big spenders Atletico are still looking for their first win of the campaign after being hled at promoted Real Murcia.

Atletico's Argentine striker Sergio Aguero put away Yourkas Seitaridis's cross early on but Murcia's Francisco Gallardo struck a late equaliser by rifling a shot into the far corner.

The result leaves Atletico with just two points, seven behind city rivals Real.

SEVILLA 4 RECREATIVO HUELVA 1

Frederic Kanoute and Alexander Kerzhakov scored two apiece and could have had more as Sevilla dominated their local rivals.

The UEFA Cup holders never looked in danger and Russian Kerzhakov pounced to make it 1-0 after 12 minutes before Mali striker Kanoute effortlessly strolled through Recreativo's defence and rounded Stefano Sorrentino for the second.

Kanoute cut through the defence again just after the break for his third in two matches but Recreativo caught a complacent Sevilla napping a minute later when Aitor grabbed one back.

Kerzhakov scooped a 68th minute penalty over the bar but made amends in the 75th with his third strike in two games, before Recre's Edu Moya was sent off five minutes from time.

Markel Susaeta struck a swerving 30-yard free kick to give Bilbao an 10th-minute lead before Diego Milito replied six minutes later.

Javier Saviola and Wesley Sneijder set up champions Real Madrid for a laboured victory over 10-man Almeria.

Saviola scored his first goal since leaving rivals Barcelona in the close season and Dutchman Sneijder made it 2-0 from a free kick in the 69th minute.

Almeria, who had Albert Crusat sent off for taking down Saviola in the 63rd, pulled one back through Kalu Uche before Gonzalo Higuain wrapped up the win for Real with a long-range lob with two minutes to go.

Valencia supporters whistled their players off the pitch after they struggled to defeat promoted Valladolid.

Daniel Kome opened the scoring for the visitors in the 10th minute after keeper Santiago Canizares spilled a simple cross before Fernando Morientes equalised in the 24th.

Valladolid had the best of the second half but Valencia's David Silva snatched a last-minute winner when his deflected shot looped in.

"محمد علي*آبادي" بعدازظهر روز دوشنبه در ديدار روساي فدراسيون*هايي كه جواز حضور در بازيهاي المپيك ۲۰۰۸پكن را كسب كرده*اند ، افزود : خوشبختانه برخي از رشته*ها همچون دووميداني و دوچرخه*سواري انگيزه*هاي خود را به خوبي يافته*اند و اميدواريم تا بازيهاي المپيك ۲۰۱۲لندن ، رشته*هاي المپيكي ايران به ۱۷رشته افزايش يابد.

وي اظهار داشت : در دوره گذشته حداكثر شركت*كنندگان ايران در بازيهاي المپيك ۳۶نفر بود كه افزايش سهميه*ها حكايت از رشد ۱۰۰درصدي دارد.

علي*آبادي با اشاره به صحبت*هاي رئيس جمهوري مبني بر آنكه عملكرد و دستاوردهاي ورزش ، دولت را مجبور به افزايش بودجه در سال آينده كرده است ، افزود : بودجه ما نسبت به ورزش دنيا كم است و با صرف هزينه ۱۲۰ميليارد توماني در فوتبال ، ۱۰۰ميليون دلار به سازمان تربيت بدني و كميته ملي المپيك مي*رسد كه رقم زيادي به نظر نمي*رسد.

قصد داريم تا دو هفته آينده با حضور دكتر داوودي معاون اول رئيس جمهوري و وزراي وزارتخانه*هاي مختلف از محل بند "ب" براي ورزش ، كمك مالي جذب كنيم.

رئيس سازمان تربيت بدني افزود : دست ما براي كمك به فدراسيون*ها بسته نيست و مي*توانيم به آنها كمك كنيم. بنابراين از فدراسيونها درخواست مي*كنم كه برنامه*هايشان را به كميته ملي المپيك تحويل دهند.

با وجود محدوديت ، در برنامه*هاي مالي ناتوان نيستيم و تا آنجايي كه بتوانيم به نيازهاي فدراسيونها پاسخ خواهيم گفت و تصور مي*كنم تا اواخر سه ماهه سوم امسال اعتبار مورد نظر از محل بند ب به دست فدراسيون*ها برسد تا بتوانند برنامه*هاي خود را اجرايي تر كنند.

علي*آبادي اظهار اميدواري كرد تا كاروان ورزش كشورمان بتواند در بازيهاي المپيك ۲۰۰۸پكن ، رتبه خود را در جدول مدالي در حد فاصل رده*هاي ۲۷تا ۲۹حفظ كند.

وي خاطرنشان كرد : بعد از بازيهاي المپيك ۱۹۸۸سئول ، تعداد كشورهاي حاضر در المپيك*ها افزايش يافته است و اميدوارم كاروان ورزش ايران بتواند با حفظ جايگاه خويش در سالهاي اخير ، در آينده نيز بتواند در بين ۲۰كشور جدول مدالي بازيهاي المپيك قرار گيرد.

در اين نشست "رضا قراخانلو" رئيس كميته ملي المپيك با بيان آنكه هم اكنون هدف*گذاري در ورزش ما به بازيهاي المپيك ۲۰۰۸پكن معطوف مي*شود ، از تلاش بي*وقفه همه فدراسيونها براي اخذ سهيمه لازم در المپيك قدرداني كرد و افزود : با توجه به اظهارات روساي فدراسيونها ، شرايط اميدواركننده است و به نظر مي*رسد كه وضع ما نسبت به المپيك قبل بهتر خواهد بود.

وي گفت : همه ما به اين نكته واقف هستيم كه مسابقات جهاني پيش از المپيك ، مرجع بسيار خوبي به حساب مي*آيند اما ما بايد در برخي رشته*ها مطمئن تر حركت كنيم.

قراخانلو ، خواستار تحليل مالي و تداركاتي فدراسيونها در يك ماه آينده شد و گفت : تكليف سهميه*هاي اخذ شده بايد بيشتر مشخص شود و تحليلي نيز بر جايگاه و نوع مدال*هاي تيم*ها و ورزشكاران داشته باشيم.

كميته ملي المپيك به ورزش كشتي اعتماد دارد و در رشته*هاي ديگر هم در كسب سهميه ، خوب پيش رفته*ايم تا افق روشني را پيش رو داشته باشيم.

در ادامه "علي كفاشيان" دبيركل كميته ملي المپيك با بيان آنكه كسب سهميه*ها و ورودي*هاي المپيك به معناي موفقيت در قاره به شمار مي*رود ، افزود : اين مساله افتخاري براي ورزش ماست و از اين لحاظ مي*توان رشته*هاي بسكتبال ، تيروكمان و دووميداني را مثال زد.

در بخشي از كشتي ، جودو و دوچرخه*سواري صاحب سهميه شده*ايم و برخي ديگر از رشته*ها هم مانند شنا و واليبال براي كسب سهميه فرصت دارند.

اكنون مجموعه فدراسيونها و ناظران كميته ملي المپيك همه در تلاش براي كسب بهترين نتيجه و راهيابي به المپيك و كسب مدالهاي خوش رنگ در اين مسابقات مهم هستند.

در كميته ملي المپيك ، اولويت با بازيهاي المپيك ۲۰۰۸پكن است و در فاصله كمتر از ۱۱ماه مانده به اين بازيها بايد كارها جدي تر از قبل پيگيري شود.

در اين نشست ، "محمد علي*آبادي" خطاب به روسا و مسوولان ارشد فدراسيونها از وضعيت كسب سهميه رشته*هاي مختلف جويا شد كه طي آن محمد پولادگر رئيس فدراسيون تكواندو از كسب ۲سهميه در مردان و يك سهميه در زنان خبر داد.

علي قارداشي دبير فدراسيون پينگ پنگ نيز قول كسب يك سهميه در قسمت مردان را داد.

براتي دبير فدراسيون تيراندازي ، دو سهميه براي اين رشته در نظر گرفت.

كريم صفايي رئيس فدراسيون تيروكمان نيز همين تعداد سهميه را كه يكي از آنها به بخش بانوان مربوط مي*شود ، اعلام كرد.

محمد درخشان رئيس فدراسيون جودو از كسب سهميه قطعي توسط "آرش ميراسماعيلي" خبر داد و گفت كه جودو در سه وزن ديگر مي*تواند كسب سهميه كند و حداقل با ۵و حداكثر با ۷سهميه در بازيهاي المپيك شركت كند.

واعظ آشتياني رئيس فدراسيون دوچرخه*سواري در نهايت شش سهميه را براي اين رشته در بازيهاي المپيك ۲۰۰۸پيش بيني كرد.

كريمي رئيس فدراسيون دووميداني با بيان آنكه دووميداني كاران كشورمان ۵سهميه را تاكنون اخذ كرده*اند از تلاش براي تبديل دو سهميه ورودي "بي" به "آ" خبر داد و در مجموع از كسب شش سهميه براي دووميداني ايران در المپيك خبر داد.

احمد ناطق نوري رئيس فدراسيون بوكس ، كسب ۴سهميه را براي المپيك تقبل كرد.

محتشمي رئيس فدراسيون ژيمناستيك از اختصاص حداكثر يك سهميه افتخاري ( (Wide cardبه اين رشته گفت.

باقرزاده و مرادي روساي فدراسيونهاي شمشيربازي و شنا نيز كسب يك تا دو ورودي المپيك براي اين دو رشته را اعلام كردند.

تيمورتاش دبير فدراسيون قايقراني گفت كه اين فدراسيون يك سهميه در رشته كاياك مردان را پيش بيني كرده است.

Villarreal took the lead in La Liga after they won 2-0 at Racing Santander on Wednesday.

First half goals from Turkish international Nihat Kahveci and their American-born Italian striker Guiseppe Rossi secured pole position on goal difference from local rivals Valencia, who laboured to a 2-1 win over Getafe.

The two teams both have 12 points from their five games, with unbeaten Barcelona one point further back after inflicting a 4-1 thrashing on Real Zaragoza.

However, Villarreal's lead may only last a little over 24 hours as Real Madrid, who started the week on top, have a game in hand and play host to struggling Real Betis on Thursday.

The unbeaten reigning Spanish champions need only to draw with Betis, who have yet to win this season, to leapfrog over the three teams who are ahead of them.

After Racing had several good early chances, Kahveci broke the deadlock six minutes before half time after a superb pass from the right flank by Chilean winger Matias Fernandez.

Racing were reduced to 10 men on 62 minutes after defender Aldo Duscher was dismissed for a wild tackle on Cani Garcia.

Guiseppe Rossi then secured three points for the visitors when he scored, his fourth goal of the season, from a Robert Pires pass after 76 minutes.

"Duscher's sending off wasn't decisive. Our effectiveness was," reflected Villarreal coach Manuel Pellegrini.

"This was a very good victory against a team that was waiting for us, a team that had only lost once and that against a very good team before we met them," added the Chilean coach.

Valencia were made to work hard for their fourth successive win but eventually triumphed after first half goals from Spanish internationals David Silva and David Villa.

Silva opened the scoring after 15 minutes, jumping on the ball after Getafe goalkeeper Oscar Ustari failed to properly clear a Fernando Morientes shot.

Villa, last season's top domestic scorer with 16 goals, then got his first of this season on the half hour when he hammered home a pass from Valencia captain David Albelda.

Getafe midfielder Braulio Nobrega got one back but, despite some late pressure, the visitors from Madrid could not quite salvage a draw.

"We gave away the two goals and that makes life difficult however well you play after that," said Getafe's under-fire coach Michael Laudrup.

The result means that Getafe are still without a win this season and are just one place off the bottom of the Spanish first division.

Barcelona produced their best performance of the season to unravel Real Zaragoza with four first half goals.

Argentine winger Lionel Messi found the net after just five minutes but Zaragoza's Alberto Zapater equalised four minutes later.

However, the 2006 European champions quickly got back into their stride and Messi took barely a minute before he sent a cross from Deco into the back of the net to give Barca the lead again.

Andres Iniesta and Rafa Marquez added more goals before the break before the Catalan club stepped off the gas in the second half.

Thierry Henry once again disappointed and - with the crowd chanting 'Ronaldinho, Ronaldinho' and clamouring for the return of the Brazilian - squandered several chances late in the game despite the best efforts of his team mates to set him up with a gilt-edged goal scoring chance.

Osasuna got their first win of the season with an emphatic 4-1 defeat of bottom club Levante.

Uruguayan striker Walter Pandiani put the hosts ahead with a header after 31 minutes, connecting with a Jose Izquierdo cross from the right wing, but Levante equalised through Felix Ettien just three minutes later.

Pandiani then put Osasuna back in front six minutes after the break and Juanfran Torres added the Pamplona-based side's third from the edge of the area just before the hour.

Javi Garcia finished off the thrashing 14 minutes from time to leave Levante continuing to prop up the Spanish first division with just a solitary point to their name.

Villarreal took the lead thanks to a great solo goal from in-form Italian striker Giuseppe Rossi midway through the first half, but defender Javi Venta put through his own net to put Osasuna back on level terms almost immediately.

Striker Dady put Osasuna 2-1 up when he bundled in at the far corner, only to see Villarreal defender Diego Godin cancel his goal out two minutes later.
