        • Sevilla condemned Primera Liga leaders Real Madrid to their second defeat of the season on Saturday night with an impressive 2-0 win at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan.

The home side, under new coach Manuel Jimenez, opened the scoring after 19 minutes when Seydou Keita hammered home a wonderful shot from the edge of the area.

Luis Fabiano tapped home two minutes later to double Sevilla's advantage.

Madrid never looked like getting back into it although their chances were not helped by the dismissal of former Sevilla defender Sergio Ramos seven minutes into the second half.

Valencia bounced back from their midweek mauling by Madrid to win 2-0 at Real Mallorca.

Under interim boss Oscar Hernandez - new coach Ronald Koeman does not take over until Monday - a double from Fernando Morientes was enough to secure the win on the Balearic island.

Madrid lead the table by four points from Barcelona, who take on Real Betis on Sunday. Elsewhere, Atletico Madrid host Villarreal and Espanyol go to Racing Santander.

                • Barcelona will miss Thierry Henry through injury for Tuesday's Champions League game away to French champions Olympique Lyon, from which the Spanish side need just a draw to make sure of reaching the knockout stages.

The France striker, suffering from back and groin pains, should be replaced by promising teenage forward Bojan Krkic.

Brazil forward Ronaldinho is back in the Barcelona squad after pulling out of Saturday's Primera Liga match against Recreativo Huelva, which the side went on to win 3-0 in the Nou Camp.

The club said he had been suffering from excessive fatigue and that it had been a mutual decision between the player, medical team and coaching staff to rest him.

Captain and centre back Carles Puyol has recovered from a blow to the ribs that forced him to be substituted against Recreativo and was included along with France defender Lilian Thuram, who was left out on Saturday.

Lyon, needing a win to keep alive their hopes of making the last 16, might have to make do without Karim Benzema.

The France forward, who left the pitch on a stretcher in the second half of his side's 2-0 Ligue 1 win at Stade Rennes on Saturday, is nursing a bruised right thigh.

                  TOP SCORER

The 19-year-old, Ligue 1's top scorer with 11 goals, is doubtful according to the club's doctor but has not given up hope.

"It still hurts but I will do everything I can to play," Benzema told Reuters. "It's a big match and I want to be part of it."

                          • Real Madrid will take a seven-point lead into the winter break after seeing off arch rivals Barcelona, 1-0.

Julio Baptista scored the only goal of the game in the 36th minute, finishing off a beautiful one-touch move with a well-taken half-volley into the top right corner.

Bernd Schuster's side were worth winners and now have 41 points from their 17 games, compared to Barca's 34.

A further point back are Espanyol after they came from a goal down to win 2-1 at Atletico Madrid, who had two men dismissed for the second successive league match at the Vicente Calderon.

Sergio Aguero had already been dismissed by the time Simao Sabrosa put the 10 men ahead in the 37th minute.

Raul Tamudo levelled after 53 minutes and Mariano Pernia saw red two minutes later, but it was not until five minutes from time that Luis Garcia sealed the win.

That enabled Espanyol to leapfrog Villarreal, who could only draw 1-1 with Recreativo Huelva.

The goals came within the space of three minutes, with Javier Camunas putting Recre ahead and Nihat Kahveci equalizing six minutes before the break.

Deportivo La Coruna won the bottom-of-the-table clash at Levante 1-0 thanks to an 85th-minute penalty from Sergio Gonzalez.

Despite their win, the Galicians remain in 19th, but are now 10 points clear of Levante, who look doomed to relegation and will be glad to see the back of 2007.

Daniel Guiza collected his eighth goal of the season but Real Mallorca's recent poor form continued after they were beaten 3-1 by Osasuna at the Estadio Reyno de Navarra.

The Balearic Islanders are without a victory in the Primera Liga since their November 24 win over Sevilla and that result is their only victory in eight games.
