Lachey, DiScala Start Basketball Team
Nick Lachey and A.J. DiScala have long been friends, and now they're business partners in the perfect venture: The two sports fans are starting a basketball team.
They, along with other celebrity investors, on Tuesday announced the formation of the Hollywood Fame, a new team that will join the American Basketball Association.
The Fame will launch its inaugural season in November with home games at the Los Angeles Sports Arena.
Player tryouts were held on Tuesday, and another round is planned for September to fill any remaining spots on the squad and hire cheerleaders.
DiScala, the former husband and manager of Sopranos actress Jamie-Lynn Sigler, said in a statement, "We're excited about the Hollywood Fame bringing highly skilled basketball players to the fans of Los Angeles. We are creating a unique family entertainment option at affordable prices."
Other Fame owners include actor Geoff Stults (7th Heaven and The Break-Up), Dancing With the Stars' Stacy Keibler, NBA legend John Salley, former Major League Baseball All-Star Brady Anderson, Baltimore Ravens quarterback Kyle Boller and NASCAR's Brian Vickers.
According to the ABA, the association will see more than 60 teams beginning play in November, including teams in the U.S., Mexico and Canada.

Boulder D.A. Defends Actions in Karr Case
Boulder district attorney Mary Lacy is facing heavy criticism for bringing John Mark Karr to Colorado from Thailand for a DNA test that ultimately proved he didn't kill JonBenet Ramsey.
According to the Associated Press, Lacy said Tuesday she was moved to act because Karr was seen paying particular attention to a 5-year-old schoolgirl while under surveillance in Bangkok, a situation she called the "turning point for everyone."
"We felt we could not ignore this," Lacy said. She also said a forensic psychologist had told authorities that Karr "was dangerous," and perhaps "escalating" toward an assault or worse.
Prosecutors spent at least $9,300 on investigating Karr and bringing him to the U.S. after he refused to take a more sophisticated DNA test that could have ruled him out as a suspect, Lacy said.
On Monday Colorado Gov. Bill Owens accused Lacy of wasting thousands of dollars on the "most expensive DNA test in Colorado history."
"The decisions were mine. The responsibility is mine, and I should be held accountable for all decisions in this case," Lacy said. She added later, "John Karr inserted himself into this. I don't have a great deal of sympathy for John Karr. I have sympathy for his family."
On Tuesday, a judge ordered Karr sent to Sonoma County, Calif., to face five misdemeanor charges of possession of child pornography from 2001. Local authorities also said they want to examine his computer again for more illicit images.
If convicted, Karr faces a year in prison for each count. The extradition, which NBC News says Karr is fighting, must occur by Sept. 13. For now, the 41-year-old is being held in a Boulder jail.

The Break-Up Actor, Wife Have a Son
The Break-Up actor John Michael Higgins and his wife, actress Margaret Welsh, welcomed a baby boy Tuesday.
Walter Lloyd Higgins was born at 8 a.m. at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. He weighed in at 8 lbs., 2 oz. "Parents and baby are doing well," their rep, Jeff Raymond, said in a statement.
Higgins, 43, played Jennifer Aniston's ambiguously gay brother Richard in the summer's hit comedy. He's also a staple in Christopher Guest's mockumentaries: He played Michael McKean's fussy dog-grooming partner in 2000's Best in Show and Jane Lynch's clueless husband 2003's A Mighty Wind.
In the fall, he'll appear in Guest's For Your Consideration and recently completed filming Evan Almighty with Steve Carell.
Welsh's credits include appearances on TV's Boston Legal, Grey's Anatomy and The Practice.
