Imported fuel-efficient cars will cost less, thanks to a recent decision by Iran's government to lower the tariffs on such models.
Vehicles that burn less than 6 liters of gasoline per hundred kilometers would enjoy a %5 reduction on their import tariffs for every %25 decrease in their fuel consumption, Fars News Agency reported .
The Institute of Standards and Industrial Research of Iran has been tasked to devise a plan and compile a list of all vehicles and car parts to which the new regulation can be applied.
The government has also decided to stop issuing license plates for vehicles that consume more fuel than the standard level.
